Discover how can you increase the performance of your Lincoln Continental by installing suspension kits

October 31st, 2009

The earliest Lincoln Continental was the automotive equivalent of Catherine Zeta-Jones — it ought to have come with a warning label that read May Cause Shortness of Breath. Based on the Lincoln Zephyr, the Continental got its start as a one-off drop top commissioned by Edsel Ford in the late 1930s. Serving as his vehicle of choice during his annual jaunts to Palm Beach, the car’s exquisite shape generated so much buzz that Lincoln decided to put the Continental air suspension into production. Available as both a cabriolet and a coupe, the Continental debuted in 1940. World War II and other events resulted in stops and starts in the car’s production over the next decade or so, but by the mid-’50s, the Continental was back — this time as its own brand. That arrangement didn’t last (the Continental brand was folded back into the Lincoln marque in 1957), but the Continental did. For more than two decades, it served as Lincoln’s flagship model.

As a recipe for ailing sales, the Lincoln Continental was redesigned in 1961. Now available as either a sedan or a four-door convertible (the nation’s first in more than a decade) it was hailed for its clean good looks and winning performance. That era’s photogenic First Family was often snapped riding in the Continental; it came to be known as the Kennedy Lincoln and enjoyed a wave of popularity. Another redesign took place for 1966 and again in 1970, which left the Continental with a blocky, more formal look (highlighted by hidden headlamps and a larger grille) and a coil-link rear suspension. Fuel economy and emissions regulations forced Lincoln’s hand, and the Continental was given makeovers in 1980 and ’82. The car rode on a much shorter wheelbase, and offered improved gas mileage. In 1988, the car was given a new platform — one shared by the midsize Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable. This Continental was the first Lincoln to offer front-wheel drive and a fully independent suspension.

Unfortunately, this move to front-wheel drive eventually doomed the Lincoln Continental rear air suspension as it progressed through the end of the 20th century. Late-model Continentals didn’t exactly crackle with the same desirability as that very first model, as consumer tastes had moved away from the soft-riding big-car brand of luxury that was the Continental’s stock in trade. Even more notably, foreign rivals such as BMW, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz had eclipsed the car in performance and refinement and had become top choices for shoppers in this segment. Dogged by weak sales, Lincoln’s big sedan was retired in 2002.

Tips to Avoid Hiring an Awful Graphic Designer

October 31st, 2009

Everyone wants to hire the best of the best to do work for them, but not all of us can afford the best of the best’s prices! Still, if you want quality, you need to ask the right questions and ensure a good match. Here are some ways you can end up hiring a really awful graphic designer and end up regretting it.

1. Don’t choose a designer without knowing how much experience they have.
Any designer worth their salt will be able to tell you how long they’ve been designing, what background they have, any educational credentials or awards they’ve won. If a designer refuses to tell you or has absolutely no background to speak of, this should be a red flag.

2. Never choose a designer without asking for samples of their work.
The look of the webpages, graphics, or content they designed should give you some idea of their style, and whether it’s compatible with what you’re looking to have designed.

3. Don’t choose a designer without drawing up a contract.
No matter what the project is, a written agreement is always a must if you want to have a good relationship with a graphic designer. The better designers will insist on it themselves, and if not, you should insist. All the terms should be drawn out, from the project’s beginning to end.

4. Ask for, and contact, references.
Make sure you get references and call each one. Ask the reference about his experience with the designer, whether they overcharged him, how communicative and flexible they were, and so on.

5. Don’t choose a designer because they were the first to apply.
If you’re posting a general job ad, you’re probably going to get many responses. If you don’t, you need to evaluate how reasonable your posting and offered price is, whether you’re posting it in the right place, and so on. Don’t offer a designer the job simply because they were the only one to apply.

Top 3 Tips for Using Video Cameras to Capture Special Events

October 30th, 2009

Video cameras are often used to capture special events such as births, weddings, graduations, and more. This serves as a graphic memory of the events that transpired during a special occasion. As a result, you want to ensure that you are taking the steps necessary to create a high quality video that will allow you to remember the special occasion for many years to come. In this guide, you will learn the top 3 tips for using video cameras to capture special events.

1. When using video cameras at a special event, it is important to avoid shooting in what is referred to as LP Mode. While this is considered the economical choice due to the fact that it allows you to record more on a tape or a memory card, it also reduces the overall quality of the video.

2. Most video cameras today come complete with a built in microphone. If you are taping a special event, avoid using this at all costs. Determine if the camera has an input for audio. If it does, purchase a microphone that can be plugged directly into that jack. This way, you will be able to experience the highest quality when it comes to sound.

3. Most video cameras of today come complete with a wide variety of special effects that can be turned on to enhance video that you elect to record. When taping a special event, avoid these effects. Nine times out of ten, they will damper the overall presentation of the event.

Special events occur throughout all of our lives. Advances in video technology now allow us to capture these special moments. By following the top 3 tips in this guide, you can successfully record any event with any number of video cameras with success.

Top 3 Tips for Taking Great Pictures with Digital Cameras

October 30th, 2009

There are many tips for taking great pictures with digital cameras. Many individuals believe that taking pictures digitally requires no specific skill or prior knowledge, but the truth is that digital based cameras integrate a high level of features that makes it challenging to capture pictures in the way that you want, or the way that you expect. By knowing a few tricks, you can capture beauty in every shot that you take. The following represents 3 tips that you can use in order to truly capture the essence of every photo that you take:

1. Many digital cameras come with preset balance settings such as Beach, Sunny, Cloudy, Night, and similar settings. Prior to taking pictures, it is important to learn how to access these balance settings and to experiment with each one. This way, when you indulge in taking pictures you will know which balance setting will compliment the photograph and can set the camera to that setting.

2. Do you enjoy taking a lot of pictures of the great outdoors or of people and places outside? If so, then it is likely that you will benefit from what is referred to as a Polarizer. This is a special filter that is often used when photographing landscapes and natural scenes. It works to reduce the amount of glare that is displayed in the image and even eliminates reflections that are not intended to be caught. If you are unable to acquire a polarizer filter, simply place a lens from a pair of old sunglasses over the viewing area of the camera – this will provide the same effect.

3. The next step to taking great pictures with digital cameras is to research the zoom mode on your camera. This is also often referred to as Macro Mode. This feature will permit you to take pictures of items that are typically hard to capture in close up. For example, you may capture a line of ants, or a flower in your garden.

It is easy to take great pictures with digital cameras. It may seem a bit overwhelming, but it is important to learn all that you can regarding the features of your camera. Once you know what can be done with it, you may incorporate these top 3 tips to capture some fascinating shots!

A Guide to Workplace Planning

October 30th, 2009

Introduction

In the current economic climate, it’s not just employees who are coming under scrutiny in many organisations, but the effective use of work space as well.

With major advancements in the use and availability of mobile technology, it’s much easier and in some cases much more efficient for both the employer and employee to agree a flexible working arrangement. So as well as the more traditional arrangements for office based personnel, employees are now able to work from home and work from several locations during the working week. Even when in an office environment, hot-desking, touch-down areas or hotelling are all common arrangements being made for the mobile employee.

In providing this flexibility, it’s important that the employer considers how to ensure that the business premises are used to their maximum efficiency. It’s a major challenge for any employer, who will not want to see rows and rows of empty desks day after day.
Effective workplace planning is something that many organisations are now considering. There is much to consider such as minimum space requirements, lighting requirements, fire exit and disabled access considerations , to name but a few. So seeking the advice of a specialist workplace planning contractor could prove a worthwhile investment.

It’s not just about effective planning and utilisation of space. Is mobile working and the creation of hot desking areas right for your business? In some organisations, the company culture and the flexibility of employees will mean that such initiatives will work. In other companies it may not. There are many things to consider in planning the workplace environment. No two companies are the same. For one organisation, it may be decided that a stimulating working environment for employees is required, whereas with other organisations effective use of space around the office location will be a priority. Which ever is effective for your organisation, you will want to ensure that the company’s culture and values remain clearly understood by employees.

The work schedule can take several weeks or in the case of more complex projects several months to complete. Either way, from the outset the project needs to demonstrate a clear plan to maximise the use of space, office and layout design, construction timescales and management of contractors whilst on site. The company’s employees will also need to be temporarily relocated whilst the work is undertaken. There are also stringent health and safety regulations concerning the office environment, which must be adhered to in the planning of the project.

Workplace planning contractors will undertake a site survey of the business premises to try and understand if such a scheme is likely to be a success. From the contractors point of view, it is a valuable exercise, to take time to discuss and agree the options with the client to ensure that once the plan of action is agreed, work will be planned to ensure the minimum disruption to the business.

It doesn’t have to be an expensive office fit out to make good use of interior space.

What should be taken into consideration when planning the workplace area?

One of the most critical considerations when undertaking workplace planning is to be absolutely clear about what tasks will be performed in the designated areas. Different layouts, different furniture, the amount of space required, should all be considered depending upon the tasks to be employed in the area. So whether the workplace is to be for permanent staff or mobile workers, consideration needs to be given to the comfort of the working environment, to aid productivity.

Permanent workers will spend many hours at their work station so it is important that consideration is given to individual work areas. The correct provision of the appropriate office furniture and equipment all aid productivity and efficiency levels. Each employee will require their own personal space around their work station. No one likes to be closed in and there are many variations of desk design, from single to multi desk designs to ensure enough space for each employee.

Comfort at the desk is a key priority to ensure that health problems are avoided through being in the seated position for long periods of time, so a comfortable chair is essential. Lighting is also a key consideration. A more pleasant office environment is created where the office is well lit , but consideration will also need to be given to avoid glare on computer screens. Telephone communication also needs to be well positioned on the desk. Equally, for the mobile worker, ease of connecting up a laptop and mobile phone will be essential.

It is important to take into account all of these issues to, as far as possible avoid distractions from other areas of the office which could interfere with work. However, employers need to get the balance right, as it is just as important to maintain good communication and working relationships within the office. Ensure that every employee has sufficient space to effectively and efficiently undertake their tasks, without being distracted by other workers close by. Therefore, in some cases, the provision of a conference room to enable one-to-one or group discussions to be held, may be another effective element of the office design.

In my opinion, the most effective way in which to ensure that employees buy-in to what the employer is trying to achieve is to consult with the employees. Through consultation, the employees can give their views on what type of workstation will be best suited to performing the tasks.

For example if the environment is to be used by a sales person, where regular communication with clients is required, then a slightly more secluded working environment may be preferred to avoid background noise, particularly if discussing detailed proposals or contracts. A sales person is one type of employee who will have flexible working requirements, where a small amount of their working week will be spent in the office, whilst the rest of their time will be spent out on the road visiting potential and existing clients.

If the environment is in a finance department or call centre, then the use of system desking or multi seated work stations may be a more appropriate solution, where a number of employees can be seated in a work area together. Whatever the intended working environment consider the views of the employees.

Maximise interior space with an office refurb and re-design of the working environment.

Health and Safety in the office

Whatever the office conditions, the employees should be allowed a degree of flexibility to set up their work station to suit their own needs. As long as the employer has provided and considered the requirements of the working environment to allow employees to undertake their work effectively, employees will want to add a personal touch to their own work area. As long as employees do not place their own health and safety or that of others at risk, then there is nothing wrong with the employer allowing some flexibility with this.
Guidelines for use of equipment at the workstation

Taking time to ensure the comfort of employees at the workstation can eliminate health and safety problems in the future. Every one enjoys working near a window and if this is possible, the reflection from windows onto a computer screen can make reading of the screen difficult. Therefore, window blinds or shades need will need to be installed to enable employees to control lighting conditions.

In situations, where the workstation is to be used for longer periods of time, guidelines recommend that the use of computers may require an anti-glare filter to be placed across the screen to eliminate problems with reflection. A computer screen is recommended to be at least 25cm from eye level.

It is also necessary to ensure that enough electrical sockets are available, for additional communications equipment such as mobile phone chargers and laptops.

Employees may also require printers or scanners to be located on their workstation.
The correct seating is critical of any workstation design. Perhaps the most important feature of the workstation is the provision of the correct type of office chair. Many hours will be spent seated at the workstation, so the better the quality of office furniture, the less likelihood there will be of receiving complaints from employees about discomfort in the back, shoulder or neck area of the body. The chairs comfort and design can impact upon how effective or productive the employee will be. So it is good practice to test some office chairs for comfort before purchasing too many.

Good morale amongst employees is positive for your business and a comfortable working environment will help the cause. I was recently involved in a project to set up a new call centre to accommodate eighty call centre agents. Following much discussion with the office design contractor and consultation with around twenty existing agents, plans for the new look office were agreed before the contractor went away to draw up the plans. The existing agents felt that team working was important and therefore it was agreed that the most effective office layout would be for the call centre agents to be grouped in teams of six around a circular desk system.

Once the plans were finalized, over a three month period the office layout was developed. Taking time to involve the existing agents has proved very effective indeed, with all call centre disciplines showing good signs of improvement. Another major plus point is that in a call centre, staff turnover can be high, but any new starter is quickly integrated into a ‘team table’ and through training, conversation and listening to team colleagues, quickly adapts to the requirements and targets of that team.

For warehouses, large industrial shelving racks may be what you are looking for.

Fire Exit Considerations

No matter what type of business you operate, employers must comply with regulations around safety at work, and this includes what to do in the event of a fire.In today’s health and safety led environment whether it is at home or in the office, the installation of smoke detectors is common place.

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, was introduced to provide guidelines for businesses on what reasonable steps should be taken to reduce the risk from fire, to occupants of the building . More importantly the Order contains advice to business owners to ensure that a safe escape plan is in place should fire occur.

Generally speaking, ensuring fire safety within premises is a common sense approach. It is important that in any workplace planning programme, that time is taken to identify for example, where the nearest exit routes are for employees to safely leave the building and where employees should congregate upon evacuation of the premises.

In some premises of course, hazardous materials may be in use within the building and therefore it is wise to seek further advice from the fire service who can advise on how to take specific precautions. Equally, office buildings on several floors will also require advice from fire safety experts to ensure safe escape routes are identified. Many businesses now appoint fire marshals whose responsibility it is, to make sure that every one within the building is briefed about what they should do in the event of a fire.

In any work environment , escape routes should be safely and immediately accessible at all times and suitable for the number of people likely to use them. They should not be obstructed in any way and accessible for emergency services.

Guidelines do recommend that at least two fire exits should be available if a premises is to be occupied by more than 60 people. The guidelines also extend to the number of flights of stairs and passages of corridors, so your workplace planning considerations will need to comply with the regulations.

Disabled Access

There are many considerations for employers to be mindful of when planning to accommodate disabled people within offices and premises. Under the Disability Discrimination Act every business is required to make ‘reasonable adjustments’ to the working environment to ensure that people with disabilities are not discriminated against.

These include making adjustments to the workplace to ensure ease of access for the disabled and providing suitable modified office furniture to provide the same level of office comfort as able bodied employees. The inclusion of a stair lift may also be necessary to accommodate disabled employees in areas other than the ground floor area.

Conclusion

It can be a cost effective solution to engage with a workplace planning specialist to review the layout of your current office environment. There are many rules and regulations to comply with, so taking time to consider the implications of precisely what is required is imperative. Do not under estimate the amount of issues to consider in making your workplace a pleasant working environment.

Unfortunately we live in a society where employees are quick to point the finger of blame at their employer for failing to provide the correct workstation or office furniture. So the contractor and client should take time to undertake a site survey, establish what is required from both the employer’s point of view and that of the employee to ensure that the end result meets both the needs of the employer and the employee. Productivity and morale will be greatly improved in a pleasant working environment.

Why Invest in TomTom ONE GPS Navigator?

October 30th, 2009

TomTom is a company that is widely identified with its TomTom GO models that have progressed over time at developing the most up to date technology for useful and inexpensive appliances. Even though they haven’t produced any upgtraded TomTom GO devices during 2009, people continue buying the existing products on account of they live up to their standards in terms of performance and usability. The single drawback that some customers face is the purchase price. Another model to consider is the Garmin 7200 StreetPilot GPS.

The TomTom ONE GPS gives you the solution to this conundrum. The TomTom ONE is a next generation version for consumers who want to conserve money but like the TomTom’s options. TomTom ONE actually has several models, such as XL models which are widescreen. Currently, only the original TomTom ONE is available in the US. The TomTom ONE was known for its very low price, as well as its lack of features and lukewarm quality. Fortunately, the 2nd edition came along with noticeable design and software developments, relieving us of the old model. This review will be concerned with the updated 2nd edition.

Look and Design

Looks can be everything, so just in case, TomTom ONE made an effort to look attractive with its diminutive and simple look with a attractively curved top. The TomTom ONE GPS is trim enough to be held one-handed and is able to slip into someone’s pocket. Simply by glancing at it, most people aren’t going to realize that your TomTom ONE GPS is a budget model.

Setup Process

The installation method is quite straightforward given its plug and play functionality, and consequently you will be able to work with the appliance right after you unpack it. You’ll encounter a phase when you need to initiate the device online, which won’t be described fully in the manual. However; you should  be able to find the instructions you need to assist with activation in the complete manual found only on the CD. Once you activate the device, you are now set to go.

Navigational Features

The TomTom ONE is very accurate in regard to positioning and recalculating as you travel. Sometimes you could notice it slightly confused by 25 to 50 meters, although it still works more dependably than most other budget handheld models available. Its routing capabilities are exceptional as well, and you won’t get too many of those irksome instructions to double back occasionally. This device won’t identify the best route possible, but it can get you there. The regional downloads that it comes with contain a large amount of POIs, yet some of the signs may not be included in the map, so be sure to keep the maps current.

Other Features

TomTom’s sound quality is satisfactory even at full volume, when other brands distort. The digital pictures and advanced user interface are a pleasant change and can likely induce more customers into giving the TomTom ONE a spin. The battery life isn’t very good, lasting just above 2 hours, and it is marketed with only a USB and car charger. Another solid car GPS unit is the Garmin 7200 StreetPilot GPS.

The TomTom ONE comes at an agreeable price and its most vital functions work very nicely. Take a look at this model as your pick if you especially need to save money.

What are the concepts of object-oriented programming?

October 29th, 2009

Object-oriented programming (OOP) can best be described as a programming paradigm. In object oriented programming (OOP) you create a model for a real world system. Details:.NET Seminare in C#,VB.NET(German).

To understand object oriented programming, there are a few concepts you will require to become familiar with.

Class
A class is used to express something in the world, things or external entities. It is a programmer defined type that serves as a template for instances of the class. A class is a template that specifies the attributes and behavior of something. Used in:Verteilte Anwendungen mit der Windows Communication Foundation – WCF(German).

Object
An object can be defined as a specific instance of a class. It is a software bundle of variables and related methods. Objects are the fundamental idea behind OOP.

Behavior
Every object has a specific behavior, it is defined in methods of the class. These real-world objects share two characteristics: They all have state and behavior.

State
Every object has a state. That is, at any point in time it can be described from the data it contains. Bicycles have some state (current gear, two wheels) and behavior (change gears, brake) in common.

Abstraction
Abstraction is used to suppress irrelevant details while at the same time emphasizing relevant ones. It solves the problem in the design side while encapsulation is the implementation.

Encapsulation
Encapsulation is storing data and functions in a class. It is nothing but hiding information also called information hiding. This encapsulation is like a agreement between the implementer of the class and the user of that class. Encapsulation is one of the most important characteristics of an object oriented system. A very good way to improve your teams dotnet skills, is by booking a Inhouse Dotnet-Training(German).

Object-oriented technology does, in fact, provide many benefits to software developers and their products. At its heart, OO programming is about creating distinct packets or groupings of data, what we name objects that model some thing in the application space.
