What in the World are Spinnerbaits?

July 23rd, 2009

Spinnerbaits are a fairly unique type of lure that many anglers across the country have used successfully to catch bass. It’s an interesting lure because it has a skirt, and really doesn’t look like a bait or crayfish. I am not sure what it is about them that makes the largemouth bass want to strike, but it has to be something about the vibration, noise and/or light that is reflected off the blades of the spinnerbait. You’ll see many a bass fall to this type of bait, they just can’t contain themselves often when a bait like this is put in front of them.

But getting into the different kinds of spinnerbaits that are available out there, you need to consider the different components. Spinnerbaits are generally made up of a straight or bent shaft, with one or more blades, a jig head, and a skirt or worm on the hook. These parts and pieces coincide to make the spinner bait an excellent option that any bass fisherman, young or old needs to have at their disposal.

If you can get a few of these baits for your tackle box, I would recommend getting some bright colored spinnerbaits for use when the water is murky, and some natural or purple colored spinnerbaits when the water is warm and clear.

Using these different compilations can really attract some great largemouths. So don’t stand on the fence, if you want to be a strong bass angler, consider getting some of the baits to put in your tackle box. They are cheap, and as you begin to learn the patterns and water conditions, you can use this bait along with others to catch some serious largemouths.
